You need to make sure you inspect the houses as closely as you can, so you can judge how much maintenance each house may or may not need. A lot of foreclosure properties end up in pretty good shape, but some of them may still need a little work.

In order to see if the houses you really like are actually being offered at a bargain, talk to a real estate agent in the area to see how the prices of other home compare.

You need to make sure that your credit report is in good order before you start the purchasing process, and you may need to prequalify for a mortgage.

You also need to see if the house has got any liens on it beforehand, because you as the buyer may be responsible for the cost.
